The Melbourne Councillor for Trade visits Boqueria market

On 9 November last, the market received a visit by Susan Riley, Councillor for Small Enterprises, Trade and Hospitality of the Australian city of Melbourne.

During her visit, Ms Riley visited the logistics area and then took an interest in commercial and waste management in Boqueria market. The visit also permitted the councillor from Melbourne to find out more about the management of the markets of the city of Barcelona and the remodelling work executed by the Municipal Institute of Markets of Barcelona through its representative, Òscar Martín.

Melbourne is home to the Queen Victoria Market, the city’s only market, which was inaugurated in 1878 and in which an investment of 250 million AUD is planned in forthcoming years. The Queen Victoria is also a member of the Magnificent 7, the international Alliance of markets of which the Boqueria is a member, along with the Borough Market of London, the Markthalle Neun of Berlin, the Sydney Fish Market, the Pike Place Market of Seattle and the Central Market Hall of Budapest. Representatives of the markets forming part of this alliance held the first joint meeting last October in Berlin.
