The Boqueria market traders renovate theis stalls
The Market has undergone an important operation to renovate its stalls which started last year and is still in progress. Just before Christmas last year, different market traders started to modernise their stalls by renovating their design, image and in some cases, installing them in new locations.
Ten market stalls have been renovated over the past four months in terms of design, image, layout and product presentation. In one specific case, the Soler Capella butcher’s stall even moved to a new location and is now installed at the back of the Market near Gardunya Square.
The first stalls to execute refurbishment work were the traders of the Can Vila pork butcher’s stall, who took advantage of the work to extend the stall and improve its product display. Other stalls executing partial or total refurbishment work are the Aroma Ibèric pork butcher’s stall, Especialitats Eva Lugo -which has changed its location and products-, Pernils JJ (it has moved to the Embotits Jose i Mari stall), Bar Boqueria, Verdures Font, Olives i conserves El Pinyol, Fruites i hortalisses Jesús y Carmen and stall number 561 (Mas Gourmets), now known as Mas Food Lovers in addition to two other stalls that are currently being renovated. The Marisc Nineta stall is also being refurbished.
Eleven more stalls in 2017
During the course of 2017 another ‘refurbishment operation’ was carried out on the Market involving eleven stalls. Carns Serrano (stall number 142), VitalFruta, Carnisseria i Xarcuteria Barrachina, Peixateria Manolo, Susi Bcn, el Quim de la Boqueria, la Manaba and El Pollo de la Boqueria were all completely refurbished and their locations changed. The traders of the Joan la Llar del Pernil and Aviram Maria José & Nerea stalls carried out partial renovations and three new stalls were opened: –the charcuterie Galiot, the first Pernils JJ stall and the Mercajocs stall which sells non-food products.
The recent transformation process of Boqueria Market was completed with the transfer to the central aisle of the fish stalls of the block located near the porches and the opening up of a square in the space freed by the demolition of the walls between corridors 2 and 3, designed to increase space in the market and accommodate different activities such as the Catalunya Ràdio mobile unit which aired the programme ‘El Matí de Catalunya Ràdio’ on occasion of World Radio Day last 13 February.
